5 Interview Tips and Tricks

Everyone wants to land that important dream job that their heart is set on. In order to do that, though, you have to first make a good impression on the recruiter. Having the skills and qualifications are just not enough in today’s day and age. There are some interview tips and tricks that can help you prepare for the all-important interview.

Realizing that the interview process is a two-way street, the recruiter seeing if you fit the job and you seeing if you want the job, is the beginning. Some other interview tips are:

  1. Relax – Easier said than done, right? But seriously, it can really help you if you are relaxed as you can be. The recruiter knows that everyone that interviews for a job is going to be nervous to one extreme or another. Yet, being overly nervous can hurt you since it can make you forget important information that needs to be said, or else it can turn you into a blubbering idiot. Do breathing exercises, listen to music, or say a prayers before going inside. Do whatever it takes before the interview and then take a deep breath and relax.
  2. Be Prepared – This is a great interview tip. Not being prepared can sabotage your job interview as much as not showing up. Review your resume before going in. Remembering what is in there is important; they will ask dates. Double check to make sure contact information is up to date and make sure to take a pen in with you to write down any information given to you.
  3. Be Honest – One of the most important interview tips you can follow is to be honest no matter what. Labeling being a cashier at a fast-food service a “food distributor” on your resume is fine, as long as clarification is made during the interview itself. Out right lying and claiming to work somewhere you never had, is not acceptable. They will find out and the repercussions are not good. Firing will definitely happen, but it will follow you through referrals.
  4. Be On Time – Being on time does not mean being there right on the dot. Being on time means being there at least ten minutes early and waiting patiently to be called back. Fifteen minutes early is even better. If you are late for an interview it will mean you will be late for work. This interview means, if you are late for the interview you might as well not even show up.
  5. Be Properly Dressed – This interview tip should not be overlooked. Ask ahead of time what one should wear. But if not, be smart. Shorts and a t-shirt or halter top are acceptable for a job interview. Dress causal. Jeans should not be worn unless they are worn there and they are nice. Use common sense when dressing.

These interview tips should be followed if you really want to obtain a job, anywhere. The interview is a recruiter’s way of seeing how you look and fit in with the company, not just going over your skills.
