After Interview activities are tasks, you might want to perform shortly after the interview has been conducted. Typically they are the following:
1. After Interview Activity: Post Evaluation Of Your Performance:
Please take notes after the interview: about what went well and what didn’t. Write down the questions that were asked which you couldn’t provide answers to or where you felt not comfortable. Research the answers at home. It is probably the last thing you have on your mind, and you want to do right now. But similar questions might get asked in any future interview so it’s good to get it out of the way.
In addition, you might want to take notes on how long the interview took and with whom you had the interview. Make notes about the company, culture and your level of interest in the position. You can use this information to improve your interview skills, it might come handy in the future.
2. After Interview Activity: Update The Recruitment Agency:
Another After Interview activity is to update the recruitment agency, if there was one involved. Please inform them and let them know how the interview went and whether you are still interested in the job. This will help to steed up the process.
3. After Interview Activity: “Thank You” Note:
One of the most important After Interview activities is to follow up with a “Thank You” email or “Thank You” note to re-iterate your interest in the job. You might want to include some marketing on your side, stating the experience and skills you have and the contribution you would make to the team or company. This will help you to stand out amongst your competitors. Your name will stay longer in the interviewer’s memory due to the repetition of your name and skills.
If other candidates have provided a similar performance, then this “Thank You” note will get you the job. Below you will find an example for a Project Management role, but you can easily modify it:
Dear Mr Smith, / Hi John,
I would like to thank you for your time, talking to me about the Project Management position in your organisation yesterday.
Based on the conversation we had, I do believe that I can help you with (your Project X / your activity). I’ve managed and delivered a similar project in the past at company X and would be able to apply my experience and knowledge to implement your project successfully.
Please let me know if you need any further information about my background and qualifications.
Again, thank you for your time. I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon regarding your hiring decision.
